A policeman has been grabbed from inside a car and dragged along a road and assaulted.

The officer was carrying out a routine check in Derby on Friday evening when he stopped a silver Seat Leon containing three men.

The car then drove off while the policeman was held through the window and dragged along Osmaston Road near the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary.

The officer managed to free himself after being driven for 100 metres.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said the officer was now seeking medical treatment.

Derbyshire Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have seen the car, which was last seen travelling towards Derby city centre
