A suspect has been shot and wounded by a security guard after launching an attack on the Israeli embassy in Ankara, Turkey, according to an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson. The attack was an attempted stabbing at the entrance of the embassy, CNN Turk reports. One of the attackers has reportedly been killed. Speaking to Reuters in a text message, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said the attacker was "wounded before he reached the embassy."
Gunshots were heard in front of the embassy building, according to the Daily Sabah. The newspaper said embassy staff were sent into hiding as the incident unfolded. "The assailant was shot and wounded by a local security man," he said, adding that all staff at the embassy are safe.
Police units and ambulances have been dispatched to the scene. Authorities have blocked the street off to traffic following the incident. Previous reports said the assailant had been killed.
DETAILS TO FOLLOW Reports from local media said the assault on the embassy was a gun attack. However, CNN Turk reported that it was an attempted stabbing at the entrance of the embassy. 
According to the Daily Sabah, gunshots were heard in front of the embassy building, and all staff were sent into hiding as the incident unfolded.
Police units, ambulances, and a bomb squad were dispatched to the scene. 
Authorities have blocked the street off to traffic following the incident.
