A boat carrying tourists and locals in Thailand’s Ayutthaya province has reportedly sunk, with conflicting fatality numbers reported by local media. At least 12 people have died and many are missing after a boat capsized in Thailand's Ayutthaya province on Sunday.
News Channel 8 reports seven people died in the incident in the Chao Phraya River near the Wat Sanam Chai temple. The Bangkok Post reported four deaths. The incident took place in the Chao Phraya River near the Wat Sanam Chai temple. 
The boat was reportedly carrying about 100 passengers when it sank in front of the Wat Sanam Chai in Ayutthaya. Seven women, four men and one child were among the dead, and at least 37 passengers were injured. Rescue workers continue to search for survivors, Reuters reports.  
PPTV reports the majority of those on board were Thai. The double-decker boat was reportedly carrying about 150 Thai passengers back from from a religious activity when it struck the bank of the river and began to sink in front of the Wat Sanam Chai in Ayutthaya.

A search and rescue mission is underway for missing passengers, according to local news site js100. A search and rescue mission continues as night falls.
