(35 minutes later) | |
Good morning, New York Fashion Week. The forecast calls for a high of 94 degrees. Yesterday a woman was seated in the front row wore a fur coat. Will we see another? The oracle is out of office. In his absence, an amateur prediction: Yes.
Here’s what’s on today. | Here’s what’s on today. |
· Spectacle: Tommy Hilfiger, who, like his fellow Tom, Mr. Ford, has shifted to showing current-season merchandise, will bring out his fall 2016 collections tonight as well as his new TommyXGigi collaborative collection, a line designed in conjunction with fashion’s inescapable crush of the moment, Gigi Hadid. For the occasion, Mr. Hilfiger has commandeered a South Street pier, for an event that will be part fashion show, part carnival, part shopping mall. Every look that goes down the runway (and its shoppable live stream) will be available immediately at Tommy.com, and after the show, the party will be open to the public on Friday night and all day Saturday. Rides, games, food!
· A Swiss visitor: Akris, beloved of high-earning power women everywhere, arrives at NYFW from its usual perch during Paris Fashion Week. Like all well-heeled doyennes in the afternoon, it is touching down at Lever House. (Earlier this week, the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Couture Council of the Museum at F.I.T. honored the Akris designer Albert Kriemler with its annual Artistry of Fashion Award.) | · A Swiss visitor: Akris, beloved of high-earning power women everywhere, arrives at NYFW from its usual perch during Paris Fashion Week. · Even more retailers: For the first time, Club Monaco will show its new collections at New York Fashion Week, joining its accessible competitors J. Crew and Banana Republic on the schedule. | · Even more retailers: For the first time, Club Monaco will show its new collections at New York Fashion Week, joining its accessible competitors J. · Ones to watch: Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim of Monse were already designing one of New York Fashion Week’s most buzzy labels. Then, last week, they were named the new creative directors of Oscar de la Renta, where they had spent their formative years. Requests to attend their Monse show multiplied so dramatically, they had to find a larger venue to accommodate guests. And that’s before they even get to ODLR. | · Ones to watch: Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim of Monse were already designing one of New York Fashion Week’s most buzzy labels. · Icons: Harper’s Bazaar holds its latest Icons gala, where top models and designers are expected and a live performance by Kanye West is promised. This performance, unlike Mr. West’s Yeezy show on Wednesday, should not go on for hours. That said, no promises. | · Icons: Harper’s Bazaar holds its latest Icons gala, where top models and designers are expected and a live performance by Kanye West is promised. · Endnote, Jon Hamm: “Is this fashion week? I don’t even know. I don’t understand it. I’ve never gone to any of it.” (In fact, he was at Tom Ford’s dinner theater/fashion show. Jon, come back tomorrow and every morning — we’ll be here to fill you in.) | · Endnote, Jon Hamm: “Is this fashion week? I don’t even know. I don’t understand it.
