NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Google's parent company Alphabet  (GOOGL) is teaming up with Mexican fast casual restaurant Chipotle (CMG) to deliver burritos by drone on the campus of Virginia Tech, Bloomberg New's Adam Levin reported.

This is an experimental program initiated by Alphabet's Project Wing, Levin said on BloombergTV's "Bloomberg Markets" on Thursday afternoon.

While the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the service, "Alphabet is running the show," Levin noted.

Virginia Tech was chosen by Alphabet because it is one of the six FAA-approved drone test sites, making it the "perfect place to gather data with real professionals," he said. In addition, the Blacksburg, VA-based university has an "aggressive" program for "next generation transporation and infrastructure," making it the perfect place to test out the service.

Alphabet has done thousands of test delivery runs at its remote California-based test site, but wanted a "more urban environment where they could test these drones in a more realistic setting," he said.
