Fatal crash closes motorway junction in Leicestershire M1 closure: Police probe link to earlier bridge crash

The M1 has been closed northbound at junction 23 in Leicestershire due to a fatal collision. A section of the M1 has been closed after a man was hit by a lorry, with police trying to establish if the death was linked to an earlier crash.
The crash happened at about 06:30 BST and has caused congestion and long delays on the motorway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 05:20 BST after emergency services arrived.
Leicestershire Police said the southbound carriageway was open but running slowly and motorists have been advised to take an alternative route. It followed a report made minutes earlier of a crash on the bridge over the same junction - A512 Snell's Nook Lane - involving one vehicle.
There is no access to the M1 from neither Loughborough nor Shepshed. It is not clear when the road will reopen. The motorway has been closed northbound at junction 23 in Leicestershire.
Police in the county said they had been trying to establish if there was a connection between the two incidents.
The force said the southbound carriageway was open but running slowly and motorists have been advised to take an alternative route.
There is no access to the M1 from either Loughborough or Shepshed.
Officers have said the road will remain closed for "a number of hours".
