At least three people have been killed and dozens injured after a passenger train derailed in Galicia province in northern Spain, The Local reports, citing authorities. The Portuguese driver of the train was among the fatalities. | |
The accident took place when the train collided with a bridge near O Porriño municipality in Galicia province, La Voz de Galicia newspaper reported. | |
The mayor of O Porriño confirmed that around 50 people are being treated for injuries. Several are in "serious condition," The Local reports. | |
Three carriages came off the tracks in the derailment. Photos from the scene indicate that the front of the train crashed into an electricity pylon. | |
The incident occurred about 12 kilometers (7.4 miles) into the journey. According to La Voz de Galicia, the train derailed near O Porriño station and a local supermarket. | |
