‘Super PAC’ Backing Hillary Clinton Pulls In Largest Fund-Raising Haul Yet
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/09/us/politics/hillary-clinton-fundraising.html Version 0 of 1. The main “super PAC” supporting Hillary Clinton raised $21.6 million in August, a sum that officials for the group said was its largest monthly haul in its history. The money boosts Priorities USA Action’s combined donations and pledged donations to $161 million for the 2016 election cycle. The group now has $41.4 million in cash on hand, according to Justin Barasky, a spokesman for the group. The August fund-raising came in the weeks after the two parties held their nominating conventions. During his convention speech accepting the Republican nomination, Donald J. Trump described the country in stark, grim terms of decay and fear. Mrs. Clinton, in her speech accepting the Democratic nomination, called Mr. Trump temperamentally unsuited for the presidency and a singularly dangerous threat. The super PAC has echoed that message in its television advertisements. “Donald Trump says he loves war, has a secret plan to fight terror and claims he knows more about ISIS than the generals do,” said Anne Caprara, the executive director of Priorities USA, using another name for the Islamic State. “This is not a man with the temperament suitable to lead a country, and with only two months until Election Day, Priorities is doing everything we can to ensure someone as dangerous and divisive” as Mr. Trump loses, she added. |
