Version 0 of 1.

Donald J. Trump raised $90 million in conjunction with his party in August, according to totals released by his campaign on Thursday, keeping pace with his efforts earlier in the summer but lagging far behind Hillary Clinton.

Mrs. Clinton brought in $143 million in her fund-raising efforts, a sharp increase built on a steady string of high-dollar fund-raisers throughout the country in August.

Mrs. Clinton appears to have built a commanding fund-raising advantage as the campaign moves into the fall. Her campaign and two joint fund-raising committees had $152 million in cash on hand at the beginning of September, more than twice the total $74 million for Mr. Trump and his allies. That provides her with more money for advertising, campaign organization and digital outreach in the closing weeks of the race.

Mr. Trump did not release a breakdown for his campaign fund-raising alone, and neither candidate provided figures for the respective parties, leaving some details in their financial pictures unclear.

While Mrs. Clinton has plumbed the ranks of elite Democratic givers, Mr. Trump — who remains unpopular among top Republican donors — has relied, out of necessity, more on a large pool of avid supporters giving small contributions. Mr. Trump’s campaign said he had raised more than $5 million on the last day of August, when he visited Mexico and later gave a fiery campaign speech in Arizona renewing his call to deny legal status to any of the millions of immigrants now living in the United States illegally.
