Car bomb targets NGO in Kabul, 2 terrorists break into building Afghan forces end 11-hour siege after terrorists storm charity NGO in Kabul
(about 4 hours later)
The humanitarian agency CARE has come under car bomb attack in Kabul, followed by at least two terrorists breaking into its offices, Afghan officials have confirmed. Afghan security forces ended an 11-hour standoff in central Kabul after terrorists attacked a US-based humanitarian agency, CARE International, setting off a car bomb in front of the office and storming the building.
Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said at least one civilian has been killed and one wounded, Kokcha Press reported. “The police Special Forces operation has ended, the terrorists who attacked the Care organization last night have been killed,” spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, Sediq Sediqqi, said on Twitter.
One suicide attacker has been killed while the second has entered a gunfight with security forces, according to Kabul's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief, as cited by TOLOnews. In a separate post, he claimed police killed all three attackers, while stating that one civilian had been killed and six more wounded. 42 people, including 10 foreigners, were rescued, according to Sediqqi.
The CID chief said three people were in the building at the time of the attack, one of whom has been rescued. Two other people are still in the building. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
The terrorists entered the NGO building after the vehicle was detonated, Pajwok Afghan News tweeted, citing a source.
Earlier, journalist Jennifer Glasse reported that a bomb blast was heard, and that the explosion is believed to be near the Defense Ministry, which is located 3.1 kilometers (1.9 miles) from the NGO.

The attack comes on the heels of three blasts in Kabul on Monday that killed at least 30 people and injured 90 others. It happened mere hours after some 30 people were killed and over 90 more wounded when Taliban suicide bombers detonated two bombs close to the country’s Defense Ministry.
An army general and two senior police commanders were among the dead, Reuters reported citing a Defense Ministry official, the other victims being security forces personnel and civilians.
