A British man is one of six climbers missing in Nepal after an avalanche, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Duncan Williams was on an expedition 20,000ft up Ama Dablam mountain in the Everest region of the Himalayas when an ice cap hit his camp on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old was with a Nepalese Sherpa, said the UK firm which organised the trip, Adventure Peaks.

Four other people in a separate team are also missing, believed to be two Swedes and two Nepalese.

Wreckage

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are aware of an avalanche on November 14 at Camp Three of Ama Dablam mountain in the Himalayan range of Nepal in which a British national, Duncan Williams, has been reported missing.

"Next of kin have been informed and we remain in contact with them.

"Searches by Nepalese Sherpas on the ground and search helicopters continue."

One helicopter saw the wreckage of the camp on Wednesday but did not spot any casualties, said Adventure Peaks director David Pritt.

He said four Sherpas were trying to search the area and would be joined by another 10, but conditions were very dangerous.

"To date, Duncan is presumed missing and our sympathies are with his family and friends as they wait to hear future news," Mr Pritt said.
