Five people are being treated in hospital for knife wounds after an outbreak of serious public disorder in Leeds city centre, police have said. Five men have been treated in hospital for knife wounds after a major disturbance outside a nightclub in Leeds city centre.
The injuries sustained were "non-fatal", said a West Yorkshire Police spokesman. One of the men suffered serious injuries in the incident in The Calls area of the city early on Monday morning, West Yorkshire Police said.
Officers were called to the incident at 0510 BST on Monday. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, police added.
It is believed to have happened in Crown Street in The Calls area of the city, which has been cordoned off to allow forensic examinations. Five men were arrested in connection with the incident, which police described as serious public disorder.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said he believed arrests had been made, but was not in a position to confirm how many people were involved in the violence. A force spokesman said: "Police were called to an incident at 5.10am outside a nightclub in The Calls area of Leeds city centre.
"CCTV picked up what appeared to be a disturbance. As a result of this disturbance five men were treated at Leeds General Infirmary for stab wounds."
Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
Several streets remained cordoned off on Monday in The Calls area of the city, which comprises a mixture of fashionable bars, clubs and restaurants and city centre apartments.
