Kelloe stabbing: Manhunt after fatal street attack

A manhunt is under way after a man was stabbed to death in a street in County Durham.

The victim, believed to be in his early 30s, was attacked shortly after 14:00 BST in the village of Kelloe.

Durham Police said they are trying to trace a man believed to have been involved in the incident on Front Street.

A police helicopter is at the scene and witnesses have reported seeing armed officers.

The attack is thought to have happened close to a hairdressers and the Kelloe Working Men's Club.

Some witnesses said the man was stabbed in the chest.

The victim was taken to James Cook Memorial Hospital in Middlesbrough where he died.

Residents have reported seeing forensic officers at Front Street, which is still closed. There is thought to be police activity in neighbouring villages.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said: "I saw lots of police cars and an ambulance heading to the village.

"I saw lots of police officers getting changed into their armed response gear.

"There are lots of rumours going around about what happened."
