The family of a man who died at a village hall party said he was "a family man through and through".

Keith King, 57, died just after midnight on Sunday after being attacked outside the hall in Broomfield near Chelmsford in Essex.

The painter and decorator from Bracknell in Berkshire was a Crystal Palace fan known as "Kingy" to friends.

A man aged 24 from Chelmsford arrested on suspicion of murder has since been bailed.

Mr King's family said in a statement the "devoted husband" and grandfather to seven children enjoyed cycling, taking part in charity events and daily walks with his golden labrador Bramble.

They added: "He was a caring son... [who] would visit his mum every Friday night bearing fish and chips and had a shared delight in horse racing with his dad.

"They both liked to have a flutter on any horse with a 'King' connection."

A coroner has ordered further investigations into Mr King's death.
