Version 0 of 1.

The family of the murdered Strabane man Andrew Burns have denied that he was a member of the dissident republican group which killed him.

In its latest report, the International Monitoring Commission said he was a member of the splinter group Óglaigh na hÉireann.

But in a statement Mr Burns' family said there was no evidence to suggest he was a member of any such group.

Mr Burns' body was found in a church car park in County Donegal in February.

Strabane Sinn Féin Councillor Brian McMahon said the IMC's claims would only compound the family's grief.

"I think it's a horrendous action that the IMC have taken it upon themselves to do this.

"There is no direct evidence to link Andrew to anything, and for them to throw this out to the public is a very hurtful and a very distressing thing for any family," he said.
