Expedia, the online travel agency, reported a rise in net income to $51.3m (£26m) from $34.8m a year earlier.

Travel bookings jumped 20% to $5.9bn, with North American bookings up 15% and European bookings up 34%.

Its revenues rose 25% to $687.8m, with a rise in North American revenue margin due to "an increased mix of advertising and media revenues".

Expedia is one of the world's largest online travel agencies and profits rose despite slower US economic growth.
