Strong vote for remain in Oxford but Gosport votes leave EU referendum: South votes overwhelmingly to leave the EU
(35 minutes later)
More than 70% of voters in Oxford have voted to remain in the EU. Voters in the south of England have so far overwhelmingly backed leaving the EU.
The count was disturbed after a councillor was ejected from the town hall when he clashed with security staff who refused him entry. The Remain campaign was initially boosted after Oxford declared 70% of voters wanted to remain at 02:20 BST.
Oxford City councillor Mike Rowley attempted to enter the venue at about 00:30 BST. But across Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight the majority of results have favoured leaving.
After he was halted by door staff, police attended the town hall and restrained the Labour councillor before he was taken home. More than 52% of the near-million votes already counted are for the leave campaign, but 18 wards still need to be counted.

Oxford declared its result on time at 02:20 BST, with 49,424 people voting to remain (70%), and 20,913 voting to leave (30%). In Hampshire, 63% of voters quickly responded to Oxford's remain declaration, siding with the leave campaign.
Gosport responded shortly with nearly 64% voting to leave. Havant and Rushmoor also voted to leave, but Fareham and Hants have declared a win for remain.
BBC Oxford correspondent Marcus Liddell said: "There was a little bit of drama away from the main count, a local councillor Mike Rowley - one of the senior councillors in charge of housing - tried to get in, and wasn't allowed in by the door staff.
"Then there was a disturbance, there was some shouting and he was then restrained by the bouncers on the steps of the town hall.
"It was quite a scene, the counting officer came out of the main hall and the local MP Andrew Smith tried to calm down Mr Rowley.
"In the end the police were called, and they took him away from the count here."
Turnout in the city, Britain's third most ethnically diverse, was 72%.
Gosport, in Hampshire, quickly followed at 02:30 BST with 16,671 (36.14%) voting to remain and 29,456 (63.86%) voting to leave.
