An armed man has opened fire at a cinema complex in western Germany, Bild newspaper has reported. Up to 50 people have been wounded. An armed man has been killed after opening fire at a cinema complex in western Germany, according to German media. Up to 50 people were wounded in the shooting, according to unconfirmed reports.
The interior minister of the German state of Hesse confirmed to Mannheimer Morgen newspaper that the man was shot and killed after police stormed the complex.
The man, wearing a disguise and a cartridge belt around his shoulder, entered the Kinopolis in Viernheim at around 3pm local time. Police sources also told Frankfurter Allgemeine that the situation has ended and there is no further danger.
The shooter has reportedly barricaded himself inside the premises. The Darmstadter Echo reported that between 20 and 50 people were wounded by the gunman.
There are also unconfirmed reports that 40 people were being held hostage by the man.
