Geraldine Ferraro’s Daughter, on Her Mother and Hillary Clinton

Version 0 of 1. To the Editor: Re “For Perspective on Clinton, Step Back 32 Long Years” (front page, June 12): As the younger daughter of Geraldine A. Ferraro, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in 1984, I appreciated this article because it captured the lens that I was looking through as I watched Hillary Clinton on TV the night she became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee with my two daughters as we snuggled on our couch at home. I was deeply moved by the video clip accompanying the article online. The footage made me wistful of my mother’s resilience. Hardship — losing her father at 8, attacks from the press and the Roman Catholic Church, even her own cancer diagnosis — somehow always motivated her. That essential “grit” for success was a trait of my mother that I saw in Mrs. Clinton that evening. Mrs. Clinton has certainly faced her own share of adversity and has become an even stronger leader.
