Battleground California: Clinton and Sanders in final tight race Battleground California: Clinton emerges victorious over Sanders with 56% of votes
(about 4 hours later)
As polls close in California, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota, Tuesday could mark the end of either Bernie Sanders’ campaign or Hillary Clinton’s status as the presumptive nominee. NBC news has already projected Sanders securing the Democratic nomination in Montana with 51 percent of the vote, as opposed to Clinton's 45 percent. She is also the projected winner in New Jersey, with current numbers showing Clinton with 63 percent of the votes, compared to just 37 percent for Sanders.
Clinton, who currently has 2,497 delegates and 571 superdelegates, has already declared herself the Democratic nominee.
Sanders is standing at 1,663 delegates and 48 superdelegates.
However, NBC has projected that Sanders will win Montana, showing the Vermont senator with 51 percent of the votes. Clinton currently has 45 percent.
