'Horrendous sight | |
Landlady Angela Archer said: "There was an explosion, and after the explosion a fireball just came out, rolled along the ceiling and then it seemed to go back into the fire and that was it. | |
"It was flash seconds, it was awful, it was horrendous, an absolutely horrendous sight." | |
Paul Winfield, a dentist who lives and works just opposite the White Hart, treated some of the early casualties. | |
"There'd been an explosion in the fireplace of the pub opposite which had blown the fire out of the grate and burned several people," he said. | |
"When I came down my partner was actually in the surgery already, dousing down people with cold water. | |
"Soon after that the paramedics arrived and the fire brigade were in and we let the injured people into the surgery and they were dealt with actually in our waiting room." | |
