Man dies in steelworks accident

Maintenance worker Kristian Norris, 29, suffered fatal injuries as he carried out work at the Corus Lackenby site in in the early hours of Saturday. Cleveland Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have confirmed they are investigating the death. A spokeswoman for Corus said it would also be investigating the death which was a "tragic loss" for Mr Norris' partner and two children. The spokeswoman said: "Kristian was employed by Vesuvius as a contractor working on the Corus site. "He was carrying out maintenance work when the accident happened, which resulted in fatal injuries. Offering support "Kristian leaves his partner and two children. "This is a tragic loss of life and we are doing everything we can to find out what happened. "Our thoughts are with Kristian's family and we will be offering our support during this extremely difficult time." A spokeswoman for the HSE said: "The police will be looking for whether there is anything like manslaughter and we will be looking to see if there have been any breaches of health and safety. "But the police are leading the investigation at the moment." |
