(about 1 hour later)
A 14-year-old boy remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was struck by lightning in a Dublin suburb. A 14-year-old boy has died after he was struck by lightning in a Dublin suburb at the weekend.
The incident happened on a green space between Kilclare Gardens and Kilclare Crescent in Tallaght on Saturday afternoon. Patrick Ryan Corr, 14, was walking through a green space in Tallaght on Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a bolt of lightning.
It is understood the boy, who is from the local area, was playing with a young child at the time. One of his neighbours saw the flash of lightning and saw him on the ground. He was taken to Tallaght Hospital.
He is being treated in Tallaght Hospital, where his condition is described as "seriously ill". A hospital spokesperson said Patrick never regained consciousness and died in the early hours of Sunday.
