New York police arrested 120 gang members from two violent rival groups in the Bronx, calling it the largest “takedown” in the city’s history.

The gang members and their affiliates come from two groups, the 2Fly YGz, known as "2Fly", and the Big Money Bosses, nicknamed "BMB".

They have been charged with two separate indictments for racketeering conspiracy, narcotics conspiracy and distribution and for firearm offenses, according to a NYPD statement.

Preet Bharara, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York said 2Fly and BMB have been in Eastchester Gardens for years and have committed “countless acts of violence”, including the murder of a 15-year-old child.

Police Commissioner William Bratton said these individuals sold drugs on the street near homes and schools, “pushing poison” onto the streets.

“Allegedly, they also committed numerous acts of violence and at least eight murders in the course of their illicit operations,” he said. “This includes the murder of a 92-year-old innocent bystander who was killed by a stray bullet inside her home.”

The other people who were killed include six young men aged between 15 and 24.

Deputy Chief Jason Wilcox, head of the Bronx detectives, said the round-up was the result of a year-long investigation between local police and federal organizations like Homeland Security.

“So what we did today, when we took out these 120 violent gang members of this community, really puts us hopefully on the cusp of having a great, safe summer in the same community as we extracted individuals that have yielded violence, narcotic sales, in these very vibrant communities in the North Bronx,” he said.
