Version 0 of 1.

A Palestinian militant has been killed by Israeli troops amid clashes in the northern Gaza Strip, say medics.

The Popular Resistance Committees group said the dead gunman was Awad Tahrawi, one of its members. Another two people were wounded.

A spokeswoman for the Israeli army said troops responded when gunmen opened fire on them east of Jabaliya town.

Troops conduct regular raids into Gaza, saying they are trying to stop fighters firing rockets over the border.

Separately, the Israeli military said troops conducted overnight raids in the West Bank, detaining 17 suspected militants.

The official Palestinian news agency spoke of houses being stormed in Jenin and Nablus, and said at least four of those taken were teenagers.
