Man in court over Pc's shooting

A fourth man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a policewoman who was shot in Lancashire.

Pc Katie Johnson, 29, was shot in the leg during a robbery at the Hospital Inn in Bamber Bridge on New Year's Eve.

Peter Plaskowski, 27, from Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, was also charged with armed robbery, firearms offences and false imprisonment.

He appeared at Chorley Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody to attend Preston Crown Court on Friday.

Pc Johnson, a dog handler, was among several officers responding to a 999 call after an armed gang raided the Hospital Inn.

Four members of staff were tied up and left in the bathroom during the robbery.

The officer suffered 12 pellet wounds in her thigh and returned to work in Ormskirk, west Lancashire, in February.

Three other men have also been charged in connection with the incident.

Wayne McDonald, 46, of no fixed address, David Tyrell, 38, of Lions Drive, Swinton, Salford and Rudolph Mancini, 54, of Kirkham, Lancashire, are in custody awaiting trial.

Mr Mancini is also due to attend Preston Crown Court on Friday.
