France's oldest WWI veteran dies

France's oldest World War I veteran, Maurice Floquet, has died at the age of 111, the national association of veterans has said.

Mr Floquet fought in Belgium and France and was seriously wounded twice, losing his hearing in one ear.

He retired from his job running a garage in 1952, and had kept fit by riding an exercise bike. In 2005, he received a Legion of Honour medal.

There are now only four surviving French veterans of the 1914-18 war.

France will mark the 88th anniversary of the end of WWI on Saturday.

One of the survivors, 107-year-old Rene Riffaud, is expected to take part in commemoration ceremonies in Paris.
