Version 0 of 1.

A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was serving a life sentence for murder in Dumfries prison.

James McGirr, 57, who had been ill for some time, died after being admitted to hospital in January.

He had been jailed for attacking and killing neighbour John Blair with a carpet knife in Glasgow in July 2003.

The fatal accident inquiry into the prisoner's death will be held at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

McGirr was jailed after he slashed his neighbour's throat following years of being falsely accused of child abuse.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told McGirr snapped after suffering a 15-year smear campaign.

He attacked and killed Mr Blair when his neighbour repeated the allegations.

McGirr then walked into a police station and confessed to the killing.
