Key steel industry figures will give evidence to AMs on the state of the sector later. Europe is "sleepwalking into an even greater steel crisis", a senior Tata Steel Europe executive has warned AMs.
Two months after Tata announced it was cutting 750 jobs in Port Talbot, the firm and other steel companies will appear before an assembly committee. Tim Morris was one of a number of leading figures from steel sector giving evidence to a committee on the precarious state of the industry.
Trade unions and Welsh Economy Minister Edwina Hart will also be questioned. In January, Tata announced it was cutting 750 jobs in Port Talbot, out of more than 1,000 going in the UK.
Letters are expected to be sent to workers losing their jobs next week, the committee heard.
Tony Brady, regional officer for the union Unite, said morale was "understandably very low".
Dominic King, from trade body UK Steel, said without further action to help the sector the situation would become "quite bleak".
The steel industry has been calling for government action to tackle cheap imports and high energy costs.
