Women’s basketball: Georgetown (16-12, 9-9 Big East) defeated Butler (49-35) and Xavier (63-51) to earn the No. 5 seed at this weekend’s Big East tournament. It is the first time the Hoyas have earned a bye past the first round since 2012. They will take on No. 4 St. John’s in the quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at DePaul’s McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago. On Monday, freshman guard Dionna White was named to the Big East honor roll after averaging 13 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and four assists against Butler and Xavier.

Track and field: The Hoyas concluded the Big East indoor championships with seven total event titles and a fourth-place showing on both the men’s and women’s side. The then-No. 14 women tallied five event titles for the most in one championship in program history. The Hoyas captured two of three women’s relays (distance medley relay, 4x800 meters), one men’s relay (distance medley) and four individual titles (men’s 800, women’s 800, women’s mile, women’s 3,000 meters). The Hoyas will continue the season at the ECAC-IC4A Championships and the following weekend travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the NCAA indoor championships.

Men’s lacrosse: GU (0-3) traded goals and leads with Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday, but ultimately fell, 11-8, at Cooper Field. Peter Conley and Daniel Bucaro each had one goal and two assists. Eight Hoyas scored in the losing effort.

Baseball: The Hoyas went 1-2 at Davidson before defeating UMBC, 1-0, in their home opener on Tuesday. Freshman Jack Cushing made his first career start against UMBC and pitched six shutout innings with four strikeouts. Chase Bushor had an RBI double and Michael DeRenzi went 3 for 4. DeRenzi also went 6 for 6 in Sunday’s series finale at Davidson, earning a spot on the Big East honor roll.

Women’s lacrosse: Georgetown overcame a four-goal halftime deficit, but No. 9 Princeton scored a free-position goal in the final seconds to defeat the Hoyas, 10-9, on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Francesca Whitehurst was named the Inside Lacrosse and Big East rookie of the week on Tuesday after pacing Georgetown with four goals on five shots against Princeton. Additionally, she picked up two groundballs.

Swimming and diving: The men’s and women’s teams each earned silver medals at the conclusion of the conference championships. The men finished with 781 points, behind Xavier (832), while the women finished with 684 points, behind Villanova (1,013). Jared Cooper-Vespa and Ryan Blom were named most outstanding men’s divers of the meet, while Michael Tober was named men’s diving coach of the year.

Women’s tennis: Georgetown (2-3) fell, 5-2, against St. John’s on Friday in its second Big East match of the season. Victoire Saperstein and Risa Nakagawa defeated their opponents, 6-3, at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Softball: Freshman first baseman Sarah Bennett was named to the Big East weekly honor roll on Monday after leading the Hoyas at the Carolina Classic over the weekend. Bennett registered a team-best seven hits, including two doubles, one home run and had 12 total bases. She also led the Blue & Gray with a .467 batting average and an .800 slugging percentage. The Hoyas are set to co-host the District Invite alongside George Washington this weekend.

Women’s soccer: Georgetown will begin its five-game spring schedule on Wednesday, hosting Navy. Kickoff at Cooper Field is slated for 7 p.m. Following the opener, GU will play at Maryland on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. before hosting George Washington on April 6 at 8 p.m. The Hoyas will close the spring season with a pair of road games: at West Virginia on April 10 (1 p.m.) and at George Mason on April 16 (11 a.m.).
