Adam Johnson jury sent out to consider verdict in under-age sex trial
Version 0 of 1. A jury has been sent out to continue its deliberations in the trial of England footballer Adam Johnson on charges of sexual activity with a child. The 28-year-old has admitted grooming a 15-year-old girl and sexual activity with the teenager, relating to kissing her in his Range Rover. But the former Sunderland FC winger denies two more serious charges of sexual activity with a child. The charges arise from a meeting between Johnson and the girl in his car in County Durham on January 30 last year. The footballer admits he groomed the teenager in a series of hundreds of social media messages the pair exchanged. And he admits that he kissed her when they met in the vehicle. But the girl told the jury at Bradford Crown Court that the encounter went much further. She said Johnson put his hands in her pants and that she performed oral sex on him. Johnson told the court that nothing happened beyond kissing. The jury of eight women and four men was sent out to consider its verdicts on the two counts at Tuesday lunchtime. Judge Jonathan Rose sent the jurors out on Wednesday for a second day of deliberations. PA |
