Authorities: 20-year-old killed himself while being chased by police
Version 0 of 1. A 20-year-old man fatally shot himself while he was being pursued by officers, Virginia State Police said Monday. D’Londre Tyrell Minifield died in Winchester on Sunday afternoon, police said. State police said that Minifield and another man were in the 2200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard about 4:05 p.m. Someone called police to say that there was a fight in progress, and that one of the participants might have a gun. State police Sgt. Frederick L. Tyler said that when Winchester police arrived, the fight was ending. Police spoke to the two men, and Minifield then ran away. Winchester officers chased him, Tyler said. After running no more than a few blocks, Minifield stopped and shot himself, Tyler said. State police are investigating the encounter at the request of the Winchester Police Department. State police said Monday that it appears that no police officer fired a weapon during the encounter. |
