Teen critically wounded in shooting at Lanham area bus stop
(about 3 hours later) | |
A 17-year-old was critically wounded in a shooting at a Lanham area bus stop Monday morning.
The incident put two nearby schools on lockdown as a precaution and shut down a busy roadway as police searched for suspects in the area.
The incident began about 8:40 a.m. Monday when police received a call reporting a shooting in the 9900 block of Greenbelt Road. When officers arrived, they found a male teenager who had been shot and critically wounded. He was taken to an area hospital.
Witnesses told investigators that two people approached the victim and one of them shot the teen, police said. No desription of the attackers was immediately available.
“It appears to be an ongoing dispute between the victim and the suspect,” Prince George’s County police spokesman Lt. Dave Coleman said.
Police could not detail the nature of the dispute.
DuVal High and Goddard Montessori schools were put on lockdown as a precaution, officials said, but the incident was not related to the schools.
Kellie MacLaughlin was in the area for a morning appointment when she heard a gunshot. MacLaughlin, 29, said she ducked before she heard a second gunshot.
“I saw the boy slumped down,” MacLaughlin said. “The boy was laying in the street. This happened out of nowhere.” |
