COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Denmark’s farming and environment minister has resigned, seemingly averting the minority government’s worst crisis since it took office eight months ago.

Eva Kjer Hansen resigned Saturday after the Conservative party, a right-leaning government ally, insisted it lacked confidence in her.

Kjer Hansen had been accused by the Social-Democratic-led opposition and environmental groups of misleading Parliament about the environmental impact of a law allowing farmers to use more fertilizers.

The Conservatives, who hold six of the 179 seats in Parliament, could jeopardize the existence of Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen’s one-party government if it joined the opposition in supporting a no-confidence vote on Wednesday.
