In a statement, he said: "It would seem that this process could drag out for some time, and frankly after the last seven years, Sophie [Miss Blackman's sister] and I both need to carry on with our lives."

After he was cleared of her killing, Miss Blackman's family said the former flight attendant had been "robbed of her justice". The appeal hearing on Tuesday was adjourned until May after just 30 minutes.

He said the prosecution team had not told him of any fresh evidence to be presented during the appeal.
But Mrs Steare said that view did not represent the views of Lucie's "true" family and friends."
