BTP closed the station for inquiries. Services from Glasgow to Ayrshire were delayed by the incident. A BTP spokeswoman said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death."
She added: "The early indications are that the female may have been attempting to retrieve something from the tracks. "The incident has been deemed non-suspicious." She added that a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
