Three people who were killed in a crash in Moray on Sunday have been named. A grandmother is being treated in hospital following a car crash that killed her eight-year-old grandson and her 72-year-old sister.
The head-on collision happened at about 1300 GMT near the Findochty junction of the A98 Buckie to Cullen road. Police said a teenage driver also died in Sunday's head-on crash on the A98 near the Findochty junction in Moray.
The driver of one of the cars, Scott Nicol, 19, from Cullen, died at the scene. Three members of the same family were in the other car. Calvin Smith and Kathleen Reid, from Buckie in Aberdeenshire, were travelling in a Ford Fiesta driven by his 55-year-old grandmother.
Calvin Smith, eight, and his great aunt, Kathleen Reid, 72, were killed. The boy's 55-year-old grandmother - who was driving - is seriously injured. Scott Nicol, 19, from Cullen, who was driving the other car also died.
She was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by helicopter. Witness appeal
Insp Mike McDonald, of Grampian Police, attended the scene. He had been driving a Ford Puma.
He said: "Adverse weather conditions affected many parts of the north east during Sunday but the prevailing weather conditions at the time of the collision were not thought to be a factor. The 55-year-old Fiesta driver was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
"I am aware that we identified several witnesses at the time and we have spoken to them but I am anxious to speak to anyone else who witnessed the collision or who saw either the Fiesta or the Puma on the A98 prior to the collision. Grampian Police said an investigation in to the accident was under way and that recent wintry weather was not thought to be a factor.
"It is believed that the Ford Puma travelled from the Cullen area and the Fiesta from Buckie." Inspector Mike McDonald appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
He said: "I am aware that we identified several witnesses at the time and we have spoken to them but I am anxious to speak to anyone else who witnessed the collision or who saw either the Fiesta or the Puma on the A98 prior to the collision."
The accident followed a two-car smash near Turriff in Aberdeenshire which left a 23-year-old driver dead and a woman and two children injured.
