Fatal stabbing in shopping centre Store manager killed cashing up
(about 3 hours later)
A man has died when he was stabbed in an east London shopping centre, police have said. A shop manager has been stabbed to death during a suspected robbery in an east London shopping centre.
Officers and paramedics were called to Kingsland Shopping Centre in Hackney on Saturday evening where they found the victim with stab injuries. Jamie Simpson, the assistant manager of the Matalan store at Kingsland Shopping Centre in Hackney, was attacked as he was cashing up at 2000 GMT on Saturday.
The man, believed to be 30 years old, was declared dead at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified. The three attackers are believed to have run from the store via the rear car park in Dalston Lane.
Officers said they were keeping an open mind regarding the motive. The next of kin have been informed. Detective Inspector Jackie Sebire said: "Mr Simpson was known as a reliable and diligent member of staff.
Mr Simpson had worked at the store for the last three years.
He was found by staff shortly after the attack in an office area where he was working.
Det Insp Sebire said: "Mr Simpson was completing his day's work when he was fatally assaulted during a suspected robbery at his store.
"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously inthe shopping centre around closing time (7pm) or witnessed the assailants makingoff from the store via the rear car park."
Police do not believe the store was randomly targeted and extra police officers have been deployed to the area.
