A man has died and a search is under way after a vehicle plunged into the Caledonian Canal in the Highlands. A man and woman have died after their car plunged into the Caledonian Canal in the Highlands.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the vehicle and establish whether or not anyone else was inside. It was not initially known if anyone else had been in the car at the time, but the woman's body was found inside the vehicle at about 1330 GMT.
It followed a search by police, Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard, who were assisted by Strathclyde Police's underwater search unit.
A police spokesman said the vehicle had now been lifted from the lock and a report on the incident would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
The spokesman added: "Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing and the investigation is at a very early stage.
"A full and detailed examination of the scene will be carried out and post mortems are due to take place."
The identities of the pair, who are thought to have been the only people involved in the incident, have not yet been released.
