An incendiary device was found during police searches in south Belfast.

Acting on a tip-off police found the viable device during a search of three houses in the Donegall Avenue area.

No arrests were made but police said they were determined to find those responsible for making and storing the device.

Area commander Chief Supt George Hamilton said a device which could have caused "injury or even a fatality" had been taken out of circulation.
