The second bank holiday break-in this year has occurred at a Denbighshire lifeboat station, leaving two boats out of action for the day.

A spokesman for Rhyl lifeboat said TV and video equipment were stolen and the station was in "complete disarray".

He said the crew arrived on Friday morning and saw glass everywhere and items scattered over the floor.

The boathouse was also targeted on New Year's Day. Police are involved and CCTV footage is being examined.

Ray Coltman, the station's operation manager, said: "The thieves showed a total disregard for a voluntary emergency service, causing much damage, and resulting in the boats being taken off operational duty for the day, particularly during what could have been a busy Easter period.

"This could result in loss of life should we be required," he added.

Mr Coltman said he thought the individual or individuals spent a long time going round the boathouse, smashing windows to gain access to the crew areas.

They got into the training room and also got into the shop next door.
