Four dead at Turkey power plant
(about 4 hours later) | |
An explosion at the construction site of a hydroelectric power plant in central Turkey has left four workers dead, local media and officials say.
Another five workers were injured in the incident.
The cause of the blast in the province of Kahramanmaras was not immediately known, provincial governor Mehmet Niyazi Tanilir said in a statement.
Some reports said that the four workers were drowned after a water gate at the hydroelectric plant burst.
A valve on a pipeline broke, releasing pressurised water which swept away the workers.
The power plant was owned by a private company, Mr Tanilir said.
