France: Charlie Hebdo Plans Edition to Mark Anniversary of Massacre

In a special edition laced with blasphemy, obscenity and profanity, Charlie Hebdo’s surviving artists and writers declared that the satirical newspaper was alive, but “the murderer is still at large.” The 32-page copy marking the anniversary of the Jan. 7, 2014, attack on the paper’s staff accuses Islamic fundamentalists, organized religion, an irresolute government and intelligence failures for violent acts in France by Muslim extremists. Seventeen people died at Charlie Hebdo and in other attacks in the Paris area in the days that followed. They were among the first victims of a series of attacks by Islamic extremists in France last year. |
