Parades will celebrate St Patrick Thousands at St Patrick's events

Thousands of people are expected to take part in parades across Northern Ireland to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Thousands of people have lined the route of the Belfast St Patrick's Day parade, which has been led from City Hall by Lord Mayor Jim Rodgers.
The biggest events will be held in Belfast and Londonderry, but Ireland's patron saint will also be commemorated in Downpatrick. The parade features a Chinese Dragon, drummers, dancers, floats, Samba musicians and hundreds of children from community groups throughout the city.
Belfast City Council has organised a carnival parade which leaves city hall at 1200 GMT and will make its way to Custom House Square for a free concert. In the afternoon, crowds will be entertained at a concert being held at Custom House Square.
Major events are also taking place in Londonderry and Downpatrick.

The Belfast carnival parade, themed The Shamrock and the Storm, will feature drummers, a huge rainbow float and shamrocks. Mr Rodgers said the Belfast event was not just cross-community, but multi-cultural.
