Highpoint Prison inmates treated by paramedics after medicine cabinet breach

Eight prisoners had to be treated by ambulance crews after getting into an unlocked medicine cabinet.

The Prison Service said it had started an inquiry into the incident at Highpoint Prison, near Haverhill, Suffolk, on Sunday.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it treated prisoners for symptoms including "vomiting and... being pale and clammy and not alert".

Four prisoners were taken to hospital for treatment.

They all returned to the prison the next day.

A Prison Service spokeswoman: "An investigation is ongoing into an incident at HMP Highpoint on Sunday.

"We are clear that action will be taken against those involved."
