A helicopter was called to airlift three people to hospital after a house was destroyed by a fire in Sutherland.

Three fire engines went to the scene to tackle the blaze in the village of Kinlochbervie, after the alarm was raised at about 0430 GMT.

Stornoway Coastguard said a helicopter was sent to take three people, who were suffering from smoke inhalation, to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The fire service said the detached house was 95% destroyed by the blaze.

The three people who were inside had managed to escape from the building themselves before firefighters arrived.
