Four men have been charged with encouraging support for Isis at a series of meetings in Luton.

The suspects were arrested last week and are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London tomorrow.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police, which conducted the joint operation with the Eastern Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Unit, said searches had been carried out at seven properties and “several vehicles” related to the arrests.

Mohammed Istiak Alamgir, 36, has been charged with four counts of addressing meetings to encourage support or further the activities of Isis, which is a proscribed organisation, on 29 June, 7 July, 11 July and 15 July.

Ziaur Rahman, 38, is charged with three counts of managing or assisting in arranging a meeting, which he knew was to support or further the activities of Isis, on the same dates in July.

Yousaf Bashir, 35, is charged with addressing a meeting to encourage support for Isis on 29 June.

Rajib Khan, 37, is accused of of arranging, managing or assisting a meeting, which he knew was to support or further the activities of Isis, on 11 July.

He also faces a second count of addressing the meeting to encourage support for the so-called Islamic State on that day.
