Man rescued from collapsed mosque | |

Emergency services have rescued a builder who was trapped inside a mosque when the ceiling partially collapsed. | |
About 40 firefighters took part in the recovery operation to free Dariusz Naidek, a 28-year-old Polish builder from Tooting, south London. | |
Another man escaped from the building in Old Devonshire Road, at the junction of Balham High Road, south-west London, with minor injuries. | |
Emergency services were called just after 0900 GMT on Tuesday. | |
Mr Naidek's condition is not yet known. | |
'Difficult conditions' | |
Vladaimir Dinic, a 40-year-old cabinetmaker, said: "I was passing by and a man ran out in a panic, shouting 'Help, help, my friend is trapped'. | |
"It looked like the first floor of the building and some of the roof had collapsed completely. | |
"It looked like a bomb had exploded." | |
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: "Forty firefighters worked in very difficult conditions for two-and-a-half hours to release him. | |
"The building will be handed over to the owners to shore up. An investigation has been launched." | |
The Health and Safety Executive and Wandsworth Council have been informed of the incident. |
