Version 0 of 1.

Staff at a hospital where a baby died hours after her birth will not face any charges, police have said.

Caitlin Coyne died at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro on Christmas Day 2003.

The police investigation into Caitlin's death followed an inquest in 2006 which revealed several "serious failings" in the care provided.

The hospital said at the time it had taken steps to improve its care to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.

Devon and Cornwall Police passed the findings of its investigation to the Crown Prosecution Service.

'Living hell'

A force spokesman said: "It has been decided that no criminal charges should result in connection with the death of baby Caitlin."

The child's father, Wayne Coyne, said: "It is very difficult for us to come to terms with. Our life has become a living hell."

He added the family are tens of thousands of pounds in debt because of legal fees and were unable to take the case any further.

Caitlin died hours after being delivered by emergency Caesarean section.

At her inquest, coroner Andrew Walker said several warning signs were missed by the hospital.
