A blanket ban on filming at Stormont has put scheduled television coverage of assembly proceedings in doubt.

The ban was imposed following a row over Sinn Fein's tribute to Mairead Farrell, who was shot dead by the SAS 20 years ago.

The party, however, ignored the ban and permitted filming of the event in their members' room.

Senior officials at Stormont are understood to be confident the issue will be resolved later.

The decision to ban filming was made after an Assembly Commission ruling on Thursday which said events held in the Long Gallery now needed cross-community support.
